April
1, 2006 DAVID STALL RETURNS TO CORRIDORWATCH.ORG
CorridorWatch.org co-founder
and webmaster David Stall never really left
CorridorWatch but his
time between mid-September 2005 and April 2006 was wholly consumed
by his campaign for the Texas Senate. Now that his immediate
political chapter is over David has returned to concentrate on other
activities and issues, which include
CorridorWatch. Look for more
updates and much more activity from
CorridorWatch starting today.

July 3, 2005
The personal world of CorridorWatch.org
co-founders David and Linda Stall changed profoundly on July 3, 2005,
when their
23-year-old daughter Karen unexpectedly died in her sleep at home in
Brooklyn, New York. David and Linda were truly devastated. Karen was a
beautiful young lady who was pursuing her passion for photography by
attending college in New York City and interning for world famous
photographers for the last two years.
|
|
We
wish to express our sincere and deep appreciation for the
outpouring of sympathy and love we have received from our
CorridorWatch.org friends and family in hundreds of cards,
letters, e-mail messages and telephone calls. Your concern and
prayers have touched us and helped ease the terrible pain of our
loss.
Very few of
you had the opportunity to meet our Karen. She was a very special
and talented young lady. After studying in Austin she was living
her dream in New York City pursuing a career in photography. After
attending the Tisch School of Fine Arts in Manhattan she earned an
internship with a famous commercial and fine art photographer.
Karen was starting her senior year of college this fall. She was
on top of the world and we couldn't be prouder.

This
week's issue of Time Magazine includes a
three-page story in titled, "The Next
Wave in Superhighways; or A BIG, FAT TEXAS BOONDOGGLE?” (pp 40-42). The
article raises the issue of whether the TTC is an innovative solution or
a Texas-size boondoggle. It touches on using corridors to ship water
across the state and bringing oil and gas from Mexico. It notes that the
Texas Republican Party urges the legislature to repeal it. We're told
that Texas is losing more land to sprawl than any other state. This
article brings greater public attention to the TTC and the $1 million in
donations made to the Governor who proposed the Corridor.
CorridorWatch.org is
mentioned and the result has been hundreds of new visitors to our

Austin City
Councilmember Brewster McCracken has reversed his position on
three toll road projects he previously voted in favor of as a member of
the Capitol Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO). A report
appearing on News 8 Austin (Time Warner Cable) in Austin today has
McCracken saying that three projects being built with Texas gas tax
should not be on the toll road list. A week ago
Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daughtery
told the Texas Transportation Commission that CAMPO had a gun put to
their head to approve the toll roads or lose state funding.
Commission Chairman Ric Williamson took
strong exception to such a suggestion. However, today's quote from
McCracken adds to the growing number of elected officials who agree with Daughtery comments and the perception of being strong armed by the
Transportation Commission to force toll projects. "In July, the state
presented a toll road plan to us and said if you don't approve this
plan, Austin will lose hundreds of millions of dollars in state highway
funds," McCracken said. [link]

innovative financing options to address transportation needs for the
state’s growing population. Proposition 14, passed by Texas voters last
September also allowed the state to leverage up to $6 billion in
