David has returned to work on the farmhouse kitchen. Here the
counter supports are nearly ready for the countertops. But first a section of
floor must be replaced. (09.13.04) |

With the floor repaired, the solid wood butcher block
countertops are cut and fitted, but not yet attached. (09.14.04)

David pulled the 1940's cast iron kitchen sink out of the
shed and put it on sawhorses so that it could be cleaned up and plumbing
fixtures installed. Before this picture was taken, the sink was upside down so
that the countertop openings could be fitted. (09.16.04)

The countertops are attached and ready for the sink to be
installed. The 2x4 supports are necessary to hold the very heavy sink that
weighs somewhere around two hundred pounds. (09.17.04) |

With assistance from Linda, David got the sink dropped into
the countertop. Next is plumbing. When finished there will be cabinets that
match the originals. (09.23.04) |

David completed the above floor plumbing that stubs out a
foot beneath the floor. The original sink was cold water only. Although the
pipes are all new, both the cold water and waste pipes are in the same position
as the originals. David planned on having water running by Friday night but got
himself wedged under a house beam twenty-three feet from the crawlspace access
and ten feet short of the connections after pushing through the last ten feet on
his back. The next (last) beam looked even lower, so a trench will need to be
dug under the last two beams or another plan made Saturday. (09.24.04)

That's running water! Next is caulk, counter oil, window
trim, backsplash trim around the countertop and paint. (09.25.04) |
