Magnolia Mound Plantation
The Magnolia Mound Plantation was the last tourist stop
before David and Linda return to Texas. This original 1791 French Creole house
is located on 16 of the former 900 acre plantation. (09.19.04) |

The house is built entirely of cypress wood. Paint was used
to disguise the wood to look like more expensive woods like mahogany and maple.
This door represents a good example of that technique. (09.19.04)

In the early 1800's the house was updated to have Federal
accents. This room shows the rare cove ceiling and other moldings that were
added. The day before our tour there was a duel reenactment. The loser of that
duel is now here in the parlor awaiting burial. (09.19.04)

The mattress has been removed and replaced with a cooling plank. Note that the
mirror has been covered with a black cloth while the dead body is in the house. (09.19.04)
