David became a Basically Qualified member of the
11th Coast Guard District, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 2A,

US Coast Guard Auxiliary
David completed training to earn the designation of
AUXSARPAT (Auxiliary Search & Rescue Patrol) Crewman-Towmaster. Training
included how to patch hulls, receive and operated salvage pumps delivered by
USCG helicopters, and tow disabled vessels. (04.17.75)

Student Pilot Certificate
David joined the Rockwell Flying Club and started
flying a Grumman TR-2 airplane from Spaceland Airpark (SPX) in League City,
Texas. Here's David's student pilot certificate. Later Spaceland
Airpark became Houston Gulf Airport until it was closed in 2002.

Student Pilot Certificate
On December 20, 1975, while a high school senior,
David was cleared to solo in the Grumman TR-2 airplane and to make solo cross
country flights on February 20, 1976. On October 28, 1976 David was
cleared to solo in the larger Grumman Tiger. (10.28.76) |
