The following recommendations should be considered.

ARRIVAL

1. The Siren is manufactured and built to standard specifications and thoroughly tested. All possible precautions are taken in making the Siren ready for shipment, therefore, it is important that suitable and adequate equipment is used in unloading it at destination.

2. The Siren is mounted on a shipping Skid, with both Turntable Base and Frame anchored to the Skid. If Siren is to be started while still on Skid, Frame anchors or Turntable belts first must be removed.

3. The Siren when reaching destination should be thoroughly inspected for damage and any irregularities should be reported to the carrier.

LOCATION

1. If full coverage is desired, the Sirens should not be more than Two (2) miles apart.

2. The highest building in each locality, with a structural strength sufficient to withstand a weight of approximately 6500 pounds should be selected.

3. Consideration should be given to the accessibility of the roof. An outside stairway is preferred although a fire escape may be used.

4. Any necessary reinforcements that may apply to the individual structure should be made and, at the same time, making certain the base or foundation upon which the siren unit is to be installed, is level.

INSTALLATION

1. Installation should be made on a corner of the structure, or over a supporting wall, and as convenient as possible to the entry to the roof.

2. The Siren should be installed level, with the base of the Turntable securely bolted to its foundation. See (Figure 12) for location of bolts.

3. Provisions for a 110 volt AC 15 ampere load electric line should be made to the siren installation to be used in connection with the Engine water jacket heaters, Battery heater and the Battery trickle charger.

TO DISASSEMBLE SIREN

The Engine and Compressor units are properly aligned on a rigid frame. Therefore, it is advisable to make installation of the Siren as a complete unit. In any instance where the Siren must be disassembled for installation purposes, the following procedure will apply.

TO REMOVE COMPRESSOR UNIT

1. Remove Siren unit from shipping skid.

2. Remove propeller shaft metal guard between Engine unit and Compressor unit.

3. Remove Engine unit side panels.

4. Place wooden blocks under each end of Siren frame so it will not tip when weight of Compressor unit is removed.

5. Disconnect propeller shaft at Compressor shaft end, by removing four (4) bolts connecting propeller shaft coupling to Compressor shaft coupling.

6. Remove propeller shaft, by sliding, propeller spline shaft out of Engine end of connection (wrap shaft with clean cloth to prevent dirt adhering to splines).

If it is necessary to set Compressor unit on the floor it should rest on Twelve (12) Inch by Twelve (12) Inch timbers as indicated in (Figure 13). Do not permit the unit to rest directly upon the Compressor housing or the Horns.

7. Remove four (4) bolts securing Compressor base to Siren frame.

8. Hoist Compressor unit and rest bases on timbers as indicated in (Figure 13).

TO REMOVE ENGINE UNIT

1. Loosen idler adjusting pulley.

2. Remove belt from Engine power take-off pulley to Turntable drive.

3. Disconnect and remove Battery ground cable.

4. Disconnect and remove cable from Battery to Startix.

5. Remove Battery.

6. Remove screws holding Engine water heater cable out-let box to frame.

7. Disconnect Engine water heater cables and conduit from circuit breaker box, place identification tags on wires, leave wires in conduit, slide conduit under Engine and secure temporarily to Engine unit.

8. Remove Turntable slip ring cover.

9. Place identification tags on the four (4) wires attached to the four (4) lower slip ring brush holders for proper reinstallation. 10. Remove four (4) wires of wiring harness attached to the four (4) lower slip ring brush holders.

11. Remove wiring harness assembly from frame cable clips and fold back into Engine unit housing and temporarily secure to Engine unit.
