In 1942 Chrysler engineers envisioned a
market for sirens less powerful than the monster Chrysler-Bell
Victory Siren. The answer they proposed was the Chrysler-Bell Gas Siren.
This smaller and lower power, economy model, used a 120-HP six-cylinder
Chrysler engine to drive the chopper and 300 cubic feet per minute
engine exhaust to pressurize the siren instead of a blower or
compressor. Like other Chrysler sirens, the Chrysler-Bell Gas
Siren also had a power driven turntable base.
So far, we have not
identified any installations or existing examples of this lesser known
Chrysler siren. It's quite possible that it never developed beyond
the experimental model stage.
