The two projects, for $ 18 M, involve the implementation of the motorway’s toll system and two control centres.

Indra obtains a remarkable position in USA’s toll market, with strong possibilities of substantial development in a nearby future and foresees big investments in various states such as, Texas and Florida

January 29, 2007

Indra was awarded the two stages of the project to implement the toll system of the USA's Indiana Toll Road, which stretches for 156 miles and connects Illinois with Ohio, and the rest of Indiana's motorway network. The contracts were granted by ITR Concession Company, a joint venture made up 50% by the Australian company Macquarie Infrastructure and the Spanish Cintra. The project for Indiana’s toll road implies the entry of Indra in USA’s traffic and toll market, representing strong possibilities of future development with large investments in various States such as, Texas and Florida. Besides this, the granting of the second stage makes Indra the sole provider of the motorway’s toll system, conveying a great strategic value by confirming Indra’s presence in the US.

The first stage of the project involves the renovation of the open toll system of the first 23 miles of the motorway, with 52 toll lanes, a main plaza and 5 lateral ones. The second stage consists of the implementation of the close toll system in the motorway’s remaining 123 miles, adding up 91 toll lanes and 14 main plazas. The toll system will be managed through a control centre where the system maintenance and exploitation information will be integrated.

The system will have manual and automatic toll lanes for either cash or card payment, and electronic toll lanes which will allow electronic payment through e cards installed in vehicles.

The project foresees ticket sale systems, access control, toll collection terminals, road signalization, classification and communication systems supply as well as initial maintenance of all systems.

These contracts altogether with the contract signed last year for the renovation of Metro San Luis’ ticket sale systems, consolidate the company’s presence in USA’s transport area.
