Dear Member,

Happy New Year!

As we expected, the Transportation Commission and TxDOT are taking full advantage of their success out maneuvering the Texas legislature. Without any meaningful restraint TxDOT is now spending millions upon millions of dollars to force their (the Governor's) will on the citizens of Texas. Their goal is to reverse the tide of political opposition to the TTC.

TxDOT is still single-mindedly focused on using Texas highways to generate revenue. In the process they are forcing their will on every level of government. TxDOT is cutting local and regional project funding to bring political pressure to support their plans for private partnerships, dangerous financial schemes, and multi-generational agreements that could spell future disaster for Texas and all Texans.

Make no mistake, you and the actions you took last year have had a very real and meaningful impact. The aggressive efforts of TxDOT today is tangable evidence of our progress.

For every challenge presented there is an opportunity.

CorridorWatch is continuing the fight to challenge the wisdom of the Trans Texas Corridor. Stay tuned and stay engaged, there are many great opportunities to change the course of this flawed project and the bad public policy that has made it possible.

TxDOT Begins Public Reeducation Effort

Today (1/15/08) the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has formally begun a massive public reeducation and public relations effort in an aggressive and expensive attempt to stem the chorus of objections voiced thus far over the Trans Texas Corridor (TTC).

Millions of tax dollars are being spent in the attempt to sway public opinion instead of building and maintaining Texas highways. Rather than listening to the public and addressing our needs and concerns, TxDOT is out to reeducate us, to convince us that the TTC is the only solution that can meet our transportation needs.

Despite our obvious misgivings, we must all once again participate and voice our continued concerns and objections to the Trans Texas Corridor.
