Following his funeral service at Sagemont Baptist Church in Houston our friend Fire Marshal and retired Senior Captain Doug Holmes was transported on the hose bed of a fire engine to Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.  Seventeen miles of the Gulf Freeway between Houston and Dickinson was closed for a half-hour to all southbound traffic while the mile-long funeral procession made its way south.  (06.12.03)

Doug was accorded full fire service honors including honor guard, 7-1 bell ceremony and bagpipes.  Hundreds of vehicles in the procession slowly moved into the cemetery though these ladder trucks and firemen standing at attention.  (06.12.03)
