Brazos Valley No Longer in Trans Texas
Corridor Plans
June 11, 2008
Joe Brown, KBTX
Hundreds of
Brazos Valley
residents stared
the State in the
eyes and said
"no" to the
Trans
Texas
Corridor.
Wednesday, the
State blinked.
After an
outpouring of
opposition at
town hall
meetings,
including ones
in Navasota,
Huntsville and
Waller, the
Texas Department
of
Transportation
has decided to
consider only
existing
roadways for the
I-69 corridor.
That eliminates
Grimes, Walker,
Montgomery and
Waller counties
from
consideration.
TxDOT says the
overwhelming
sentiment of the
public was to
focus on
existing roads
instead of
carving new ones
out of the
countryside. The
new route is
projected to run
along Highway 59
east of the
Brazos Valley.
