Gov. Rick Perry announced Wednesday that he
appointed William Meadows of Fort Worth and
Deirdre Delisi of Austin to the Texas
Transportation Commission.
The Texas Transportation Commission
oversees the Texas Department of
Transportation, and Delisi and Meadows’
terms will expire on Feb. 1, 2013, according
to a release.
“Texas faces serious challenges in
providing a transportation infrastructure
that will sustain our state’s rapid pace of
population and trade growth,” Perry said in
a release. “Both Deirdre and Bill have the
integrity and expertise to ensure that these
needs are met efficiently and responsibly. I
am confident their contribution to the
commission will maintain the momentum of the
late Commissioner Ric Williamson’s
pioneering vision, and secure comprehensive
transportation solutions that will reduce
traffic congestion, improve safety and keep
our state’s doors open to economic growth
and success.”
Meadows, chairman of Hub International
Rigg, vice chairman of the North Texas
Tollway Authority, and former appointee to
the Texas Water Development Board, according
to a release. Meadows served as a City
Council member and mayor pro-tem as well as
being the former vice chairman of the Fort
Worth Parks and Community Services Advisory
Board, a member of the Fort Worth Chamber of
Commerce and Southwestern University.
“Well, I’ve known Bill for a long time
and he’s very knowledgeable about
transportation,” said Vic Suhm, executive
director of the Tarrant Regional
Transportation Coalition. Bill “is obviously
very knowledgeable about our needs in this
region, he’s of course served on the NTTA
board for years and as a former city council
member. I can’t imagine a better choice, I
think the governor made an excellent
choice.”
Delisi served as chief of staff and
deputy chief of staff to Perry and special
assistant to Perry when he was lieutenant
governor, according to a release. Delisi
also served as policy advisor to both Lamar
Alexander and George W. Bush’s presidential
campaigns, the Texas Department of Commerce
and as legislative aide to State Sen. Bill
Ratliff, according to a release.
