Come clean on toll
road study

A press release
arrived Tuesday with this headline:
"DeCroce says Assembly Republican lawyers
will be in court Friday seeking toll road
report." That would be Alex DeCroce of
Parsippany, the Assembly minority leader.
Clearly, it never should have gotten this
far. At issue is a state consultant's report on
what the Corzine administration calls "asset
monetization." That would be selling or leasing
state toll roads in hopes of a huge windfall.
Gov. Jon Corzine has refused to release the
report. He also has refused to talk about it.
It's hard to figure out why. Not releasing a
report, not talking about an important issues;
this fails government 101.
Now, the administration is scheduled to argue
in court that a report paid for by the taxpayers
should be kept confidential. That is a tough
argument to make.
