HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - The state of Illinois is again threatening to stop giving Indiana drivers a 50% discount when using transponders on Illinois tollways if Indiana doesn't give Illinois drivers a price break.
Indiana drivers who have transponders that electronically deduct tolls get the same discount Illinois drivers receive on Illinois roads. But the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority says it will cut off the accounts of 90,000 Indiana residents who use I-PASS transponders if a resolution isn't reached with the Indiana Toll Road.
The Indiana Toll Road originally said it wouldn't offer Illinois residents the same 40% discount that Indiana residents get with the Toll Road's I-Zoom transponders.
Electronic tolling is set to begin in mid-June on 23 miles of the Indiana Toll Road, from the Illinois border to Portage.
