Just when you think there's light at
the end of the tunnel, you find out that
it's a train.
We were so elated when the Texas House
and Senate passed transportation bill
no. HB 1892. However, before this, or
any other bill can be passed into law,
it must go to the governor's office. If
he either signs it or doesn't sign it,
it is passed. However, he does have the
power to VETO any bill that ends up on
his desk. And in this case, it looks
like that is just what he is going to
do.
HB1892 is
intended to put a two-year moratorium on
building more private toll roads, thus
temporarily stalling the I-69 corridor.
While the Corridor Watch Newsletter
hopes that the monster (TxDOT) can be
gotten under control, Gov. Perry objects
strongly to diluting their power. Only
time will tell - if he does VETO, will
they be able to get the votes to
over-ride.
The 80th session of the Texas Legislature has
really been busy. Last week it officially passed a law that
states that the cowboy boot is the official shoe of Texas. Wow -
I thought it was already!
