Texas highway plan endorsed
28
June 2002
The Texas Transportation Commission has endorsed Governor
Rick Perry 's futuristic “Trans Texas Corridor” highway and rail
plan which he unveiled in January. The plan has been described
as the biggest move in state transportation since the interstate
highway system. The commission voted unanimously to approve an
"action plan" for the project. Perry praised the vote and says
the corridor plan will provide for safer, more efficient roads
as the state's population grows. The cost of the 50-year project
has been estimated at US$145-US$183 billion dollars
