Moving the BigRed Siren - April 21, 2003

Rain Creek Farm

Not able to find another way to get his giant siren off the trailer, David gave up and hired a crane.  Here comes a 60-ton crane backing into Rain Creek Farm.  (04.21.03)

David gives hand signals to the crane operator as the siren is moved over the railroad ties where it will rest.  (04.21.03)

David makes sure that the turntable is properly positioned between the rails and that the battery box under the running board will clear the rail before giving the signal to lower the siren.  (04.21.03)

That's it, the siren is off the trailer.  Like painting, it takes more time to set up and tear down than to actually lift and move the 3-ton siren.  (04.21.03)

The siren's new home is close to the road and shed so that it can be worked on while still being out of the way.  It's also pointing away from the neighbors so that it can be run.  There isn't anyone for more than a mile in the direction it's pointed.  (04.21.03)
