Columbus
Columbus was one of less than two dozen cities
across the United States selected by the Coca-Cola Company for the pre-release
of their newest product, Vanilla Diet Coke. Columbus, Ohio, Georgia and
Texas were also selected for live television coverage of that product launch.

Representatives from Atlanta, Houston and El Campo
were all on hand for the product launch. Columbus Day and the City of
Columbus were selected to lead the country in the discovery of Vanilla Diet Coke. (10.14.02) |

Live broadcasts took place at 5:30am, 6:30am and
7:30am during which the Mayor of Columbus and others were interviewed, sampled
Vanilla Diet Coke and visited with Coca-Cola officials. The official public
introduction was at ten o'clock, complete with crowds, marching band, Miss
Columbus, and Mr. & Mrs. Columbus! Video crews recorded the activities. (10.14.02) |
