Chrysler Air Raid Siren atop a 40-foot
tower in Lomita Park, Lomita, CA circa 1999
Photograph courtesy of Mike Grogan.
During the Cold
War this Los Angeles County siren was tested at 10am the last Friday
each month. The siren was dismantled for restoration, but was too
much of a project, and after a year the siren was scrapped.
Note the hoisting davit that can be seen at the
left corner railing. These were used on siren towers to lift
tools, small parts and most often fuel.
