BigRed™ - Fayetteville, TX - April 16, 2003
The two universal
joints connect the engine to the compressor via
the propeller shaft. The belt and pulleys seen next to the clutch
are the turntable drive. The drive pulley spins at 4600 RPM
transferring that power to the lower pulley and jackshaft at the same
speed. An idler pulley can be seen in the back. Another belt
from the jackshaft connects to a gearbox that in turn drives a chain to
the turntable. The square box in the lower left foreground houses
the electrical connections over the four slip rings that provide the
moving portion of the siren with electrical power and remote control.
There is a cover that goes over that box that's off in this picture (we
do have it). |
