COLUMNIST PRAISES SIREN

L. L. Stevenson famous New York newspaper columnist has this to say regarding the efficiency of the Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren recently installed on the R.C.A. Building in New York:

"Confusion: For some time. New Yorkers were unable to hear the air raid sirens the city has installed. Then a monster was placed atop the R.C.A. building and tests revealed that its voice, which would put the well-known bull of Bashan to shame, was one that knocked the very decibels out of common city noises, even tightly closed windows being no barriers to its unearthly wails and howls.

"Humans, during the various tests, accept it as a wartime necessity, one that would prove mighty valuable in an emergency. Birds in the vicinity, however, seem to be driven crazy by the din.

"Instead of following their usual flight patterns, the pigeons and sparrows wing here and there erratically until the uproar dies away. Then they fly to their homes and sit around looking dazed for many minutes."
