"major victory for landowners"

Not everyone however is convinced of TEXDOT’s sincerity.

Praise for TEXDOT

It hasn’t happened very often recently, especially surrounding the Trans-Texas Corridor project, but TEXDOT is actually being praised for a decision it has made.

The decision is to use existing roads to build out the TTC-69 project from the Valley through Houston and into East Texas. The only tolls would be on new lanes, not on existing ones. That replaces an earlier plan to run a new route through a lot of private property which had property owners very concerned.

Both U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congressman Kevin Brady agree with the decision calling it a "major victory for landowners."

Texans for Safe, Reliable Transportation Director Bill Noble says there may be a reason for this kind of decision and the support for it. Noble was at dozens of public hearings and heard the concerns of the public and he says apparently TEXDOT did too. "I think it does reflect the new leadership that we have at TEXDOT and the new organization with their various leaders in the various executive roles."

Not everyone however is convinced of TEXDOT’s sincerity. Corridor Watch says the decision is good public relations in light of the scathing report issued by the Sunset Advisory Commission calling for wholesale changes to the agency including the elimination of the Texas Transportation Commission.
