Questionable Assumptions

The Plan is based on uncertain assumptions.

The Corridor plan is predicated on a projection that Texas population growth will continue at a rate of 30,000 new residents a month. The Plan however does not share projection details such as population distribution or how the proposed corridors will serve that population. [citation]

It is not a reasonable assumption that 'one size fits all,' and yet the official plan provides for every Corridor to have identical facilities, 10 vehicle lanes and 6 rail tracks.  [citation]

It is extremely unlikely that the volume of traffic between and across all parts of the state will require the same capacity.

Unanswered questions.

  • If the state's population doubles, will the number of drivers increase at the same ratio?

  • What is the projected traffic count for non-resident drivers?

  • Won't there be fewer drivers using the Corridors that include four passenger rails?

Design capacity.

We don't believe that it is a reasonable assumption that 'one size fits all,' and yet the official plan provides for every Corridor to have identical facilities, 10 vehicle lanes and 6 rail tracks.   [citation]

A large percentage of the new corridors are planned to parallel current four-lane Interstate Highways. Once completed the parallel corridor will add ten more vehicle lanes, increasing the combined route capacity by approximately 350%. This increase in capacity is before consideration of passenger and freight rail which would also increase capacity.
